Amikacin

A

MOA: inhibits protein synthesis
Therapeutic: P. aeruginosa, meningitis, septicemia, bacteremia, resp/UTI
take when bacterial resistance to genta/tobra
DOSE: IM/IV 8-12hr
Side effects: 1- fever, headache, rash, GI,CDAD, anemia, superinf
Adverse ototox, neprhotox
Don’t take with…

Gentamycin

A

MOA: inhibit protein synthesis
Therapeutic: MRSA! meningitis, septicemia, bacteremia, resp/UTI
Use sunblock
caution with old, young
DOSE: IM, IV, 3 doses
Side effects: 1- thrombocytopenia, photosensitivity, headache, rash, GI, anemia, confusion, depression, conjunctivitis
Superinfection,
Adverse ototox, neprhotox, neurotox, anaphylaxis,
Don’t take with… vanco (glycopeptides). don’t mix with penicillin in soln. cephalosporins increase effect

neomycin sulfate

A

MOA: inhibit protein synthesis
Therapeutic: hepatic encephalopathy, skin infections, bowel prep
Use sunblock, preparative bowel antiseptic
caution with old, young
DOSE: PO, TOPICAL ………IM, IV, 3 doses
Side effects: 1- stomatitis, headache, rash, GI, itchy
Superinfection,
Adverse ototox, neprhotox, neurotox, anaphylaxis,
Don’t take with… vanco (glycopeptides). don’t mix with penicillin in soln. cephalosporins increase effect
