Aminoacidopathies Flashcards
What is the metabolism defect for aminoacidopathies?
Protein
defect in aa breakdown leading to accumulation of certain intact amino acids
What are some types of aminoacidopathies?
- Maple syrup urine
- Phenylketonuria
- Homocystinuria tyrosinemia
What is the most common presentation features of aminoacidopathies?
No acidosis or hyperammonemia
What are other features on presentation in aminoacidopathies?
Elevations in specific amino acids
What is the laboratory test for aminoacidopathies?
Plasma amino acid
What other tests can be done for aminoacidopathies?
Newborn screen
What is the acute management of aminoacidopathies?
For maple syrup urine disease, similar to organic acidemias
What are the chronic management for aminoacidopathies?
- Restrict offending amino acid
- Supplemental food
- Monitor plasma amino acids
