Americans and Prosperity Flashcards
What were the effects of unemployment on American Prosperity?
The growth of industries did not create as many jobs as people thought they did. The same number of people that were unemployed in the 1920s, 5%, didn’t change by 1928. People were too poor to buy what they needed, and they stayed poor due to the republican policy, laissez-faire.
What were the effects of poverty on American Prosperity?
They were some of the people that benefited the least from the boom. Native Americans were put on reservations, with poorly paying jobs and limited resources. The jobs that were available for African Americans were often low paying and laborious work. Keeping them poor. It was the same with New immigrants.
What are some examples of people that did prosper in the 1920s?
Henry Ford: He was the business owner of a multi-million dollar car company. Is a prime example of a self-made man.
People on the stock market: They earned a lot of money off of the stock market before it crashed in the 1930s. These people did prosper for a bit of time.
