Indian Removal Act.

- 46000 Indians were kicked out of America and were told to move west of the Mississippi river.

- A frontier was put up separating the Americans to the Indians

- America won the war against Mexico which meant that they claimed the Mexican territory which meant that Indian territory was sandwiched between American territory.

- American Govt sent Indians into Reservations so white settlers could use the land efficiently and could maybe teach the Indians how to use land.

Between the Union ( North) and the Confederacy (south). To resolve the long-standing controversy of enslavement if black people. NORTH WON which means that enslavement was abolished
What is a band?
A band consists of people who were mostly related. Chief and Councils of advisors would run the bands. Council members would agree w everything the bands said. The survival and protection of the band as a whole was more important than an individual
What is a tribe?
Bands would help those in there tribe in a time of a crisis. Chiefs and elderly lead a tribal council that advises chiefs from that tribe. Larger tribes (sioux)
made up groups called a nation.
What is a chief?
A chief was picked due to their wisdom and skill as a hunter/ warrior. Chiefs weren’t chiefs for life. Chiefs and council members arranged what band goes where and they also dealt with those who disrespected their tradition.
What is a warrior society?

Roles of Women and Men and Elderly?
Men- (braves) fought the enemy and hunted.
Women- (squaws) made tipis, made food and looked after the family.
Elderly- were respected for their wisdom but if their wearing threatened the survival f a band they were left behind to die.
