People having a new way of thinking and reasoning about the world around them and the government. (Enlightenment)

The implications of taxes that colonists had to pay
What were the political factors that lead to the A. R?
-The French and Indian War
-The imposition of mercantilist acts, laws and policies on the colonies
Which philosophers from the Enlightenment’s ideology was applied post A.R?
- John Lock’s on natural rights and providing the ability for people to overthrow leaders or monarchies if they violate their citizens’ rights. Also his believes centering liberty, property and life.
- Baron de Montesquieu’s model and philosophy of splitting up powers into 3 branches : Judicial, Executive and Legislative branches.
- Voltaire’s on freedom of speech and religion.
What did the Enlightenment do for the American Revolution?
It influenced American colonists and fueled the desire for independence from British rule.

From 1754 to 1763
Why was Britain in Debt after the 7 yr war?
They spent loads of money on military supplies for the war.

England/ The British
What was signed by Britain and France after the war?
The Treaty of Paris in 1763
What was the Proclamation of 1763?
It was a western boundary set by the British for the 13 colonies that infringed the colonists’ rights to expand beyond the Appalachian Mountains.
What was the Sugar Act?
The Sugar Act of 1764 was a law that placed a tax on sugar and other things not from Britain and it was a way for Britain to control colonial trade.
What was the Quartering Act?
The Quartering Act of 1765 was a law that stated that colonists had to give supplies and shelter to British soldiers which invaded their privacy.
What was the Stamp Act?
The stamp act of 1765 was a tax placed on multiple items made in the colonies and when a tax was paid, a stamp would be placed on the items. Colonists felt like they were being done an injustice with this act and rallied “No taxation without Representation”. They also boycotted British goods.
What was the Townsend Act?
It was an another act where the British placed a tax on things like glass and paint. (1767) Colonists were furious about it and boycotted it like they did to the Stamp Act.
