Colony
- a country or area under the full or partial political control of another country and occupied by settlers from that country.
- a settlement controlled by a more powerful country that is often far away.
American Revolution
a war fought from 1775-1783 and won by the 13 American colonies to achieve independence from Great Britain. As a political revolution, it created a fundamental change in the political structure of the colonies who created the first independent republic in the Americas.
Mercantilism
an economic system centered around the belief that a government can make a nation more prosperous by regulating trade and using tariffs and other protective measures against her colonies to ensure that she has exclusive access to the resources and wealth of her colonies.
