What is the Ku Klux Klan?
The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was a white supremacist group that used violence and fear to attempt to maintain control over African Americans and continue white rule.
What is a civil rights movement?
A social and political movement that occurred mainly in America (but worldwide as well) where African Americans (or any other minority disadvantaged group) sought after the rights to vote and to eliminate segregation.
What is desegregation
The removal of authorised segregation, which didn’t occur in the US until segregation was outlawed on July 2, 1964.
What happened on July 2, 1964?
The US passed the Civil Rights Act 1964 which outlawed segregation.
What are the Jim Crow Laws?
The Jim Crow Laws were laws designed to enforce the segregation of black and white Americans throughout society as a whole. They were progresively introduced into southern US states during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
When were the Jim Crow Laws progressively removed from the southern US states?
1965
What is segregation?
Segregation is the deliberate separation of the races in all forms of society. In America this was specifically blacks and whites.
What is civil disobedience?
Civil disobedience is the refusal to comply with certain laws that are seen as unjust. It is a peaceful form of protest.
What is discrimination?
The unequal treatment of someone due to their race, religion, gender, age etc.
What happened in 1965 throughout southern US states?
The Jim Crow Laws were progressively removed.
