3rd amendment
No soldiers will be quartered to live in your home
•government cannot force you to shelter soldiers in your home w/o your consent in time of war or peace
4th amendment
Protects you from illegal searches or seizures.
•you are safe in the confines of your own home
5th amendment
Double jeopardy Grand jury trial No self-incrimination Due process Eminent domain
6th amendment
“Court rules”
•right to a speedy trial by impartial jury
•right to have a lawyer (legal counsel)
•right to confront their accusers
•right to counsel but you have to have low income
7th amendment
Right to a jury trial in most civil cases
8th amendment
Punishment has to fit the crime
•no excessive bail
•no cruel or unusual punishment
9th amendment
Just because a certain right was not listed in the first 10 amendments does not mean that people do not have them
10th amendment
Guarantees that rights not given to the federal government not denied to the stats, are reserved to the states or to the people
11th amendment
- No state may be sued by residents of another state.
* government has to allow itself to be sued
12th amendment
Election of a president and Vice President are to be ran on two different ballots
13th amendment
Outlawed slavery
14th amendment
People born or naturalized in US are subject to its law.
No state will make a law taking away pro ledges of citizens, deprive anyone from life, liberty, or property w/o due process or deprive any citizen the equal protection of the law
15th amendment
Give the right to vote to all races
