Bill of rights + 13,14,15 amendment
13th amendment (slavery and involuntary servitude)
slavery and involuntary servitude are prohibited in the u.s. and any place subject to U.S. jurisdiction unless it is punishment for a crime that the person has been duly convicted of
14th amendment sect. 1 discusses
1) how to become a U.S. citizen and state citizen, 2) bans states from using laws to abridge privileges or immunities of U.S. citizens
3) prohibits states from depriving ANY PERSON of life, liberty, or property without due process
4) prohibits states from denying ANY PERSON within its jurisdiction equal protection of laws
14th amendment sect 2 discusses : (representatives)
- how to account for representatives for a state, excludes untaxed indians
- Punishment for denying valid voters the right to vote
-when it is okay to deny valid voters the right to vote
14th amendment sect 2: when is it okay to deny someone the right to vote?
when they are not male, twenty one, inhabitants of the state they are trying to vote in, or participated in rebellion or other crime
14th amendment sect 3 What disqualifies a person from having a seat in a federal or state office?
taking an oath as a member of any state or federal office and engaging in insurrection or rebellion against the same office, or giving aid or comfort to the office’s enemies.
14th amendment sect 4: validity of debts, claims, obligations
any debts, claims, or obligations concerning the loss or emancipation of any slave, or that was incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the government is illegal and void
15th amendment prohibited the denial/abridging of voting rights on account of:
race, color, previous condition of slavery
the 15th amendment protected the rights of whom to vote?
U.S. citizens who are male, 21 years old and up, and any race, color, or status as a previous slave

be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures
the fourth amendment prohibits the issuance of warrants without
oath or affirmation, probable cause, and particularity describing the place to be searched and the persons or things to be seized
the Fifth amendment prohibits:
1) being tried for an offense resulting from the same facts that they’d been tried on already.
2) capital punishment without presentment or indictment of a grand jury
3) forcing someone to say incriminating information about themselves
4) deprivation of life, liberty, or property without due process
