1st amendment
The freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition the gov
2nd amendment
Right to bare arms
-right to own a gun
3rd amendment
The right to not house a solider
-do not need to let a solider in your home
4th amendment
The right to not be searched or have something taken away within reason.
- no one can search your home without reason.
5th amendment
The right to life, liberty, property, and no double jeopardy or self-incrimination.
-If you have been tried and found innocent for a crime, you can not go to trial on that crime again.
-right to remain silent (pledge the 5th)
6th amendment
The right to a speedy trial
-The people in your jury will be from your social class.
7th amendment
The right to an jury trial in a civil case.
-If you have a law suit filed against you, you can have a jury trial.
8th amendment
Protection from excessive bail, and cruel and unusual punishments.
-no punishment that will be considered torture
9th amendment
All citizens rights ARE NOT on the constitution
- there are many more then 27 rights
10th amendment
Any rights not given to the federal government are given to the states.
- fed gov only has power of what the constitution gives them, whatever is left goes to the people and state
-reserved powers
11th amendment
Protects the states from law suits.
- prohibits the federal court from hearing certain lawsuits against states
12th amendment
The electoral ballets are different for President and Vice President to avoid confusion
-each elector must cast different votes for new and vice president instead of 2 votes per president.
13th amendment
abolish slavery
14th amendment
everyone becomes a citizens
-everyone becomes equal under the law
-expect native americans
15th amendment
All men are allowed to vote
