AMCQ Flashcards
What are the goals of the AMCQ
- Increase the quality of roofing work and ensure compliance with proven quality standards.
- Offer the most comprehensive warranty in the industry.
- Support the profession of a master roofer and promote its know-how.
What are the 4 determining factors?
For a cover to offer performance and durability, four essential elements must be met:
1. A concept adapted to the conditions of the project.
2. Quality materials.
3. A neat installation.
4. Proper maintenance.
Name the 8 divisions of the “Devis Couverture”
- Multilayers
- Modified bitumen
- Hot liquid rubber
- Thermoplastics
- Asphalt shingles
- Craft Blankets
- EPDM
- Air/vapor barrier for walls.
Each division contains what?
- General requirements
- Estimate
- Details
Name the different types of membranes.
Bitumen-based:
- Multilayers
- Modified bitumen
- Hot applied rubber bitumen
Polymer-based:
- Thermosetting (EPDM)
- Thermoplastics (PVC, TPO, EP)
What does it help protect from?
Helps protect from ultra-violet radiation
What is EPDM?
Ethylene, Propylene, Diene, Monomer
(EPDM Roofing System )
It is a synthetic rubber. River stone with smooth edges so it won’t pierce the membrane.
Explain the insulation they use.
- Plastic foams:
Polystyrenes
Polyisocyanurates
Phenolics ( we don’t use this anymore ) - Fibrous:
Glass fibers
Mineral fibers
Name the different types of adhesives.
- Oxide asphalt
- Elastomeric asphalt
- Cold adhesive
What are the maximum dimensions of a basin?
- Max. Area: 10000 sqft
- Max. Length: 100 ft
What are the typical slopes?
- 2% minimum. ( 1/4 ft )
- However, 1% is tolerated, except it must be 2% around roof drains
- Mechanical fixations for membranes must but 1:12
Describe ‘flashing membranes’
- Minimum height to raised walls: 300mm (400 recommended) above the finished surface.
- Minimum parapet height: 200mm, unless drip edge seals.
Describe the climate conditions.
-18 C for asphalt systems
- 10 C for modified bitumen membranes
What is a green roof?
A green roof or living roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane.
Benefits?
Reduces urban island heat effect
Reduces stormwater runoff
Makes roof surfaces cooler
