Amblyopia part 2 Flashcards
True/False: A person has a strabismus if they have Amblyopia.
(***she said she could ask us this)
False, not always a strabismus with Amblyopia
This is due to uncorrected high astigmatism in one or both eyes. Can be easily missed because child can squint and compensate.
Meridional Amblyopia
This is caused by very high refractive error in both eyes. Refractive error is so HIGH that a clear retinal image cannot be obtained. Causes a bilateral decrease in VA
Isoametropic Amblyopia
A 6 year old caucasian male with +7.50 of uncorrected hyperopia will have difficulty focusing to form a clear image at distance and/or near. Even after proper correction VA may stay reduced.
Isoametropic Amblyopia
True/False: HIGH hyperopia may also cause an esotropia, but this is not always the case.
True
A child has normal refractive error with good VA in one eye and a significant refractive error and reduced VA in the other eye. Hard for parents to detect, because the child relies on better seeing eye.
Anisometropic Amblyopia
What is a common comment from a child that has anisometropic amblyopia?
“My left eye never sees well.”
“Thats my bad Eye”
What are some things that you should not do to detect Amblyopia?
(***she said she could ask us this)
VA with both eyes open
Not making sure each eye is properly covered
Skipping parts of the exam
Assumptions that little children can’t have visual impairments
If you see +1 in one eye and +6 in the other eye what is likely the problem?
Anisometropic amblyopia
What is the least ammount of refractive error difference between the two eyes that can cause anisomteropia?
(***she said she could ask us this)
+1.00 D
Is amblyopia likely to develop with -12.00 D?
Yes
Is amblyopia likely to develop with refractive error of
OD: -0.75 DS
OS: -3.25 DS
(***she said she would ask us this.)
NO, not likely for Amblyopia to develop
Right eye is used for distance viewing
Left eye is used for near
What entrance test determines presence of strabismus?
Cover test
When does strabismus occur?
when visual axis of both eyes do not intersect at fixation
What does it mean when the question is asked: Is this strabismus accommodative?
she’s asking us there a lot of hyperopia with the Pt
