Amber Flashcards
Topics that I feel ok in but need to go over more
How do you work out Gravitational potential energy?
GPE (J) = mass (kg) x gravitational field strength (N/kg) x height (m)
How do you work out Kinetic energy?
Kinetic energy (J) = 1/2 x mass (kg) x velocity² (m/s)
When is there maximum kinetic energy?
When an object is moving fast (a larger mass will have more kinetic energy that smaller mass)
When is there maximum gravitational potential energy?
When an object is higher
What units is acceleration measured in?
m/s²
What units is velocity measured in?
m/s
What is the first uniform acceleration equation?
a = (v - u) ÷ t
What is the second uniform acceleration equation?
1/2 (u + v) = d/t
What is the third uniform acceleration equation?
v² = u² + 2 x a x d
Name 3 contact Forces
Air resistance, Friction, Water resistance, Drag, Lift, Thrust, Upthrust, Tension and normal force
Name 3 Non-Contact forces
Gravitational, Electrostatic and magnetic
What is Newton’s third law of motion?
For every action force, there is an equal and opposite reaction force,
What is Resultant Force?
A single force that has the same effect on an object as all the individual forces acting together.
What do you do if the forces are at a right angle?
Use Pythagoras theorem: a² + b² = c²
What is a free body diagram?
Shows all the forces exerted on an object
What is work done?
The useful energy transferred Work can be done against a force or through heating.
How can we work out work done against a force?
Work done (J) = Force (N) x Distance (m)
What is the Law of Conservation of Energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transferred into different forms.
What is the equation for Power?
Power (W) = Work done (J) ÷ Time (s)
Name some forms of energy
Heat, sound, light, nuclear, chemical, elastic potential
What is the equation for weight?
Weight (N) = mass (kg) x gravitational field strength (N/ Kg)
What is Mass?
The amount of matter in an object. It is a property that stays the same wherever you are in the universe.
What is weight?
A force exerted between objects with mass. The more massive an object is, the stronger it pulls on other objects. That is why weight is different on different planets.
What is gravitational field strength on earth?
10N/Kg
