Q

Explain the pharmacodynamics of salbutamol.

A

Used to relive inflammation and promote oxygenation of the lungs. Beta2 agonists are sympathetic drugs produced selective activation of beta2-adrenergic receptors. By activating beta2 receptors in the smooth muscle of the lung, these drugs promote bronchdiliation and thereby relieving bronchospasms.
This is thought to be due to the stimulation of adenyl cyclase by salbutamol, resulting in increased levels of cyclic AMP within cells. cAMP is a second messenger protein that regulates ion channels. In this case, it closes the calcium channel, preventing calcium from entering the cell These are thought to inhibit the entry of calcium ions into the cells, thus inhibiting smooth muscle contraction. High levels of cyclic AMP in mast cells may also inhibit the release of histamine. This good as bronchodialation and muscoic odema is what causes hypoxima and obstruction of airs in an asthma attack.
