ALTS Flashcards
What is the adults dose and concentration of adrenaline for cardiac arrest?
1mg of 1 in 10,000
What is the paediatric dose and concentration of adrenaline for cardiac arrest?
10mcg/kg or 1 in 10,000
What is the adult dose of amiodorone for cardiac arrest?
300mcg
What is the paediatric dose of amiodorone for cardiac arrest?
5mg/kg (max of 300mg)
If you are unable to establish IV access for adrenaline in cardiac arrest, how do you give it?
IO
What is the name of the IO device commonly used in Australia?
EZ IO
Which ventricular arrhythmias are shockable/ non shockable?
Shockable: VT, VF
Non: PEA, asystole
How much energy (J) would you give for cardioversion in cardiac arrest in an adult?
200J
What is the best position in paediatrics (in regards to airway)?
infants is neutral position,
if >1 year then it’s the sniffing position
What are the 4H’s and 4T’s in ALS?
hypoxia
hypovolaemia
hyper/ hypokalaemia
hypo/hyperthermia
Tension Pneumothorax
Tamponade
Toxins
Thrombosis
Immediate treatment of hypercalaemia
ECG - if abnormal Ca gluconate
Insulin and Dextrose
Immediate treatment of MI
Aspirin (300mg) Morphine GTN (if BP not too low) ECG Trops
Where do you place the limb electrodes for an ECG?
arm electrodes between shoulder and elbow
leg electrodes between the ankle and torso (Avf on left leg)
Where do you place the chest electrodes for an ECG?
V1 and V2 - 4th intercostal space sternal border
V4 - 5th ICS MCL
V6 - midaxillary line, 6th IC space
V3 and V5 - between V2 & 4; and V4 & 6
What are the additional things you do (other than drugs) that you do while CPR is ongoing?
airway adjuncts
O2
IV/ IO access
What is involved in assessing the 4Hs and 4 Ts
02 sats - hypoxia
asymmetrical chest rise, abnormal breathing sounds, - tension pneumothorax, PE,
raised JVP, muffled heart sounds - tamponade
BP cuff and give fluids - hypovolaemia
Take bloods and
