Q

Area Minimum Altitude (AMA)

A

Given in hundreds of ft with min clearance of 1000 ft above all terrain within indicated area. Rounded to next 100 ft.
Altitudes for flight may be lower than AMA but obstacle clearance guaranteed.

Q

Minimum En route IFR altitude (MEA)

A

Lowest published FL or ALT btw radio fixes that meets obstacle clearance requirement btw that fixes and in many countries assures acceptable navigational signal coverage.
MEA applies to entire width of airway, segment or route btw radio fixes defining airway, route or segment.

Q

Flight below MEA/MGA/MSA

A

If the aeroplane position can accurately determined as being within MSA sector by:

  • use of GPS navigation equipment certified for primary means of NAV
  • use of RADNAV aids
  • confirmed radar position

When flight is conducted along the respective route or holding area.

A

Prior operating commader briefed and visit aerodrome as an observer and/or undertake instructions in SIM unless:

1) approach not over difficult terrain
- instrument app aids and procedures are available and similar to those pilot is using. AND
- the normal operating minima adjusted and approved by CCAA OR
- approach and landing can be made in VMC

2) descent from inital app. alt. to landing can be made by day in VMC
3) Operator qualifies commander to land by pictorial means representation acc by CCAA
