Altitude Flashcards
Define True Altitude
The vertical distance of the aircraft above sea level– the actual altitude. Expressed in MSL. Includes airport, terraine and object elevations.
Altitude that is read directly from the altimeter (uncorrected) when it is set to the current altimeter setting.
Indicated Altitude
Pressure altitude corrected for variations from standard temperature (15ºC, 59ºF).
Density Altitude
Define “Absolute Altitude.”
The vertical distance of the aircraft above the terrain. Expressed in AGL.
The altitude indicated when the altimeter setting window is adjusted to 29.92” Hg. It is the altitude above the standard datum plane (15°C, 29.92” Hg). Use to compute density altitude, true altitude, true airspeed and other performance data.
