Altimetry 1 Flashcards
What is the definition of a Dyne?
A Dyne is the force required to produce an acceleration of 1cm per second to a mass of 1gm.
What is the definition of a Hectopascal?
A Hectopascal is 1000 dynes per square cm.
What is the ISA?
The International Standard Atmosphere
What is the atmospheric pressure at MSL for ISA?
1013.25 hPa
What is the temperature at MSL for ISA?
Temperature is 15 degrees Celsius at MSL
What is the lapse rate for ISA?
Lapse rate is a decrease of 1.98c per 1000ft increase in altitude.
From 15c at MSL to -56.5 at 36,090ft.
Above this attitude it remains constant at -56.5c.
How does pressure change with change in vertical position?
For every 30ft up pressure drops 1 hPa
What is the definition of height?
The vertical distance of a level, a point or an object considered as a point, measured from a specified datum.(defined altitude)
What is the definition of Altitude?
The vertical distance of a level, a point or an object considered as a point, measured from mean sea level (MSL).
What is the definition of elevation?
The vertical distance of a point or level on or affixed to the surface of the earth measured from mean sea level.
What is the definition of QFE?
QFE is the atmospheric pressure connected to a specific elevation e.g. the official aerodrome elevation or the runway threshold elevation.
What is the definition of QNH?
QNH is the atmospheric pressure corrected to mean sea level, assuming International Standard Atmosphere conditions across the height difference.
What is the definition of Aerodrome elevation?
It is the elevation of the highest point of the landing area. Visual manoeuvring is based on it.
When is QFE threshold used instead of QFE aerodrome?
When the threshold elevation is 7ft or more below aerodrome elevation.
What is an Regional Pressure Setting?
The lowest forecast QNH value for an Altimeter Setting Region (ASR)
