Basically the same but STV elects multiple members
AV elects only one

Recommended by Jenkins Commission 1998
Not been used anywhere in the world

How does it work?
A
Rank Candidates in order of preference
more than 50% - elected automatically
If no one 50%
candidate w fewest votes is eliminated and 2nd choices are re-allocated.
Continues until someone reaches 50% of more of vote

Advantages
A
All MPs would have wide ranging support from voters Retains MP/Constituency link Penalises extremist parties Reduces tactical voting Reduces no. of safe seats

Av is not proportional
Could produce more disproportional results than FPTP
Voting system allows to rank candidates - ‘donkey voting’
