Describe Qualitative surveys
A
- Ask open ended questions
- Need to have clear, easy to answer questions
- Participants have more control (more time to think)
- More anonymous

What are prompt methods?
A
- Can use videos, vignettes, activities, audio to start discussions on a given topic
- Good for “sensitive” topics
- Opens up and encourages a discussion.

What is photovoice?
A
- Participant led prompts
- Get insight into people’s lives my giving them a camera and asking them to take photos on a topic that is meaningful
- However can have inconsistencies in evaluation and reporting

What is story completion?
A
- Projective test (ambiguous item that infers something about a person’s subconscious)
- A participant is given an ambiguous start of story and they are asked to finish it

What are solicited diaries?
A
- Diary writing within pre- defined guidelines, intended for research purposes
- Can be useful for sensitive subjects
- Partial access to participants thoughts

How can you use existent media for qualitative research?
A
- Exciting data such as newspapers, magazines, tv, films and reader comments

How can you use user generated content for qualitative research?
A
- Can use pre- existing online sources
E.g. forums, blogs, social media etc
