$7 billion spent employing skilled men to build dams,bridges,sewage systems and houses.
1933-39 PWA built 70% of schools and 35% hospitals
CCC
Civilian Conservation Corps-tackled unemployment
gave jobs to single men under 25 and they lived government camps and received food and clothing and $1 a day which was mostly sent home.
The jobs were things such as clearing land,planting trees and strengthening river banks for flood control.

CWA

short term scheme between winter 1933-34 and 4mil were employed in menial work such as building roads
AAA
Agricultural Adjustment Administration-helped farmers and environments
this paid farmers to :
produce less food(less prices=prices go up)
take land out of production or reduce their livestock
cotton farmers paid to plough 10mil acres of cotton plantation
the government bought and killed 6mil piglets in 1933,9/10 which were destroyed
between 1933-39 farmer wages doubled
what was the downside of the AAA?
AAA helped farmers but not sharecroppers,many of which were evicted as there was not much work and they were replaced by machinery bought with gov money
what was the downside of the CCC?
Although equal opportunities we’re promised,African American enrolment was capped and black camps were segregated
TVA
Tennessee Valley Authority-helped farmers and the environment
authorised the building of 33 dams to control the Tennessee river
forests built
New 650 mile waterway linking major river systems
power stations built at the dams to provide cheap electricity to farmers and domestic consumers(became biggest producer of electricity)
created jobs
land was conserved and improved(through measures that were taken to improve soil so they can used for farming again)
why Tennessee valley(TVA)
vast poverty stricken area with soil erosion and flooding
what was the downfall of the TVA?
racial discrimination against African Americans through its employment practices and community planning efforts, led to the creation of the all-white town of Norris, Tennessee
