What is the method of action for xylazine/dexmedetomidine detomidine/romifidine?
Act on alpha2 receptors in the SNS (both in CNS and periphery), causing a decrease in the release of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine —> no “fight or flight” response.

Atipamezole

Tolazoline
What precautions should you take if you have skin contact with xylazine/dexmedetomidine detomidine/romifidine?
Wash off area immediately. (Alpha2-agonists can be easily absorbed through skin abrasions and mucous membranes.)
When using Dexdomitor 0.5 and Antisedan, how are reversal volumes of Antisedan calculated?
Dogs: same volume of Antisedan as Dexdomitor 0.5
Cats: a little more than half the volume of Antisedan as Dexdomitor 0.5 (cats are more sensitive to the effects of atipamezole)
