Alpha Kappa Chapter History

A

In the summer of 2008, Cheryl Johnson, LaDora Carter and Anahita Sarshar were approached to bring Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated to VCU. Anxious to bring the first multicultural sorority to the diverse campus, their dream was put on hold due to the Multicultural Greek Council at VCU suspending the expansion of any new organizations for a full year. Instead of giving up, the women worked diligently to achieve their dream, recruiting Shirin Arslan and Chiquacta Hodges along the way.
Still going strong in their efforts to expand the sorority a year later, Cammie Alston and Rekoa Martin were also looking for a multicultural sisterhood and after contacting the Director of Undergraduate Expansion, they were elated to find out there was already a group of women on campus working towards the same goal. The group of women recieved two more sisters when Natasha Kugel and Nicole Lawrence transferred to VCU immediately in search of sisterhood on the diverse campus. After an enormous amount of time, effort and work, the MGC approved Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated to expand on campus. On May 2, 2010 the Alpha Kappa colony was established on VCU’s campus.
