Q

What arrangement does pure iron have?

A

Pure iron has a rectangular arrangement of identical atoms. The layers of atoms can slide over each other which makes the iron soft and easily shaped – this iron is far too Bendy for most other uses

7
Q

How are steels formed from Iron

A

Steels are formed by adding small amounts of carbon and sometimes other metals into the iron

Q

Why are alloys harder than pure metals ?

A

Different elements have difference sized atoms so when as element is added to a pure metal, the smaller elements smaller atoms will upset the layers of pure metal atoms - making it more difficult for them to slide other eachother
