Local allergic reaction.
One of your marines is stung by a bee (Hymenoptera), and begins to have hives, lip swelling, and some coughing and hoarseness. He is itching all over. What type of reaction is this and what is the biggest concern?
This is a generalized allergic reaction.
Concern is anaphylaxis, which is subsequent respiratory and/or circulatory collapse.
This patient gets oral antihistamines, potentially steroids, and a epinephrine auto injector should be with the patient at all times.
What is the dose of epinephrine in an auto-injector?
- 3mg for adults
