Tobacco is a plant whose dried leaves are commonly used for smoking, chewing, or snuffing, and is known to cause a range of health problems.

Nicotine is a highly addictive substance found in tobacco that is one of the main causes of the health problems that come with tobacco consumption

A substance created from nicotine and other chemicals that is heated up in vapes.

When fine particles or droplets are suspended in the air
Carcinogens
Carcinogens are substances or agents that have the potential to cause cancer by damaging DNA and other cellular processes and are common in tobacco.
Dopamine
Pleasure chemical released by brain.
Tar
Sticky residue created from burnt tobacco.
Secondhand Aerosol
When aerosol created from vaping is released into the air and into bystanders who aren’t vaping.
Secondhand Smoke
When smoke from cigarettes and other tobacco products spreads to other people.
Thirdhand Smoke
The particles and gas left over after smoking.
Thirdhand Aerosol
The particles and gas left over after vaping.
Substance use disorder
A mental illness where someone is addicted to something and cant stop taking it despite experiencing negative side effects.

When the body builds up tolerance for high levels of dopamine and to the smoke and bad feeling coming from tobacco and nicotine.
Dependence
When the body needs high doses of drugs to work properly.

Message concerning public safety or health.
Nicotine Replacement
A way to start to quit smoking by slowly reducing nicotine intake and not smoking but instead using nicotine gum and patches.
Stimulus control
Trying to get your brain dopamine. perception back to normal by controlling how stimulated it needs to be.
Response subsitution
A way of therapy where in times when you would smoke you try to do something else to help with pain or discomfort.
Triggers
A reminder that causes people to temporarily need a hit of an addictive substance.
Addiction
When someone can’t stop themselves from smoking or vaping despite knowing what it does to them.
Withdrawl
When the body gets immediately shut off from a substance it becomes dependent on it starts experiencing shock creating withdrawal.
Peer Pressure
When friends and people of your age or status heavily and forcefully influence your life choices.
