All Of Unit 1 Flashcards
What are 2 biological factors?
Family
Illness
What are Piaget’s 4 universal stages of cognitive development?
Sensory motor
Pre- operational
Concrete operational
Formal operation
What is Piaget’s model of?
Model of how children’s logic and reasoning develop
What does Piaget suggest?
That children use their own experiences to create their own thought and logic
What are the ages within the 4 stages of universal stages of development?
Sensorimotor- 2-4 years
Pre-operational- 2-7 years
Concrete operations- 7-11 years
Formal operations- 11-15 years
What is assimilation?
When the child constructs their theory/ schema
What is equilibrium?
The child’s experience goes with theory
What does disequilibrium mean?
When the child doubts their theory
What does accommodation mean?
The child is accepting the new information
What was Vygotsky’s model of?
A model of cognition and social constructivism
What did Vygotsky suggest?
He suggested that children learn by being with and being supported by adults and others
What did Vygotsky suggest?
He suggested that children learn by being with and being supported by adults and others
What was Vygotsky’s model of?
A model of cognition and social constructivism
What did Vygotsky believe? (2)
- that social environments and experiences are very important
- children were born to be sociable and that by being with family and friends they will learn new skills and concepts
Zone of proximal development
Gap between what a child is currently able to do and what the child could achieve if an adult provides some support
What does differentiation mean for Vygotsky?
Planning activity for a group of children where they are learning at different rates
Summarise Vygotsky
- children learn & develop with the help of their friends and the adults around them
- children will learn & gain knowledge through being with others.
- zone of proximal development
What was skinners theory?
Operant conditioning theory
What did skinner believe?
All learning can be shaped by the environment and that learning can occur through behaviours being rewarded or punished
What is association made through?
Behaviour and consequence
What is the name of Bronfenbrenners theory?
Bio- ecological systems theory
What are the 5 systems in Bronfenbrenners theory?
Microsystem Mesosystem Ecosystem Macrosystem Chronosystem
What is the microsystem in Bronfenbrenners theory?
Experiences and interactions in the child’s immediate surroundings:
Home
Nursery/ School
People who are immediately influential (parent or key person)
What is the mesosystem in Bronfenbrenners theory?
How the areas of the microsystem effect the child’s growth and development. If the parents are divorced how does it affect the child?
What does the ecosystem in Bronfenbrenners theory mean?
Doesn’t directly effect the child but does have an impact. For example the where the parents work, if one of the parents work away, if they haven’t got a job. Could effect quality of child’s life.
What does the macrosystem in Bronfenbrenners theory mean?
This includes wider society. Economy and religious values. For example free childcare being introduced.
What does the chronosystem in Bronfenbrenners theory mean?
Timing of events. For example the age of the child’s parents splitting up and how they cope with it. Or if there is a war and the child ends up as a refugee.
Describe Bronfenbrenners theory
The theory helps to explain how interconnected systems within the environment may impact on a child’s learning and development.
