All Cards Flashcards
What is an atom?
The smallest part of an element that can exist. For example, hydrogen atom.
What is a molecule?
Two or more atoms chemically bonded. For example : H2O
What is an element?
Only one type of atom present, can be single atoms or molecules.
What is a compound?
Two or more different elements chemically bonded.
What is the Nuclear atom model?
See book.
What is the nucleus
The centre of an atom. Contains neutrons and protons.
What is a proton?
Charge of 1+. Mass of 1. Found inside the nucleus.
What is a neutron
Charge of 0. Mass of 1. Found inside the nucleus.
What is an electron?
Charge of -1. Mass of almost 0. Found orbiting around the nucleus.
What is a mixture?
Two or more chemicals, not chemically bonded.
What is separation?
Used to separate mixtures. See book for further info.
What does soluble/insoluble mean?
Something that can be dissolved or not.
Filtration meaning.
Get an insoluble solid from a liquid
Crystallisation meaning
Get a soluble solid from a liquid by evaporating liquid off.
Distillation meaning.
Get a pure liquid from a mixture of liquids
Chromatography meaning
Separate mixtures of coloured compounds
What are electron energy levels
See book.
what is the Periodic Table
A list of all the elements in order or atomic number. Columns called groups. Rows called periods.
What is conservation of mass.
In a chemical reaction, the total mass of reactants = total mass of products
Mass number
See book.
