All Flashcards
Kinesis
Random movement
Less directional stimulus
More unpleasant stimulus
Tropism
Growth movement of plant
Reflex arc
Detects stimulus Generates impulse Sensory neurone-> CNS Synapse w/ relay neurone Synapse w/motor neurone Impulse to effector Creates response
Sympathetic nervous system
Stimulates effectors
Speeds up activity
Emergency controller
Fight or flight
Parasympathetic
Inhibits effectors
Conserves energy
Slows activity
Normal resting conditions
Chemoreceptors
Found : wall of catorid arteries
Sensitive to changes in pH of blood from changes in carbon dioxide concentration
Chemoreceptors process
1- increased concentration of carbon dioxide. PH is lowered
2-chemoreceptors detect and increase frequency of nervous impulse to medulla oblongata = increased heart rate
3- increase in impulses by sympathetic NS -> sinoatrial node
Pacinian corpuscle
1-RESTING POTENTIAL - no sodium movement
2-PRESSURE APPLIED - changes shape. Membrane stretches
3-SODIUM CHANNEL WIDENED- sodium ion diffuses -> neurone
4-INFLUX OF SODIUM - changes potential -> depolarised = generator potential
5-ACTION POTENTIAL - sent to CNS
Rod cells
Black and white Don't distinguish wave length More Response at low light intensities Low visual acuity Concentrated at periphery
Cone cells
Colour Less Response at high light intensities Good visual acuity Cone shape Concentrated at fovea
Taxes
Simple response
Direct response
Plants and animals
Determined by direction of stimulus
