Alkene Reactions Flashcards
Hydrogenation (H2/Pt)
Syn addition
H2/Pt reacts with a double or triple bond to make a single bond
Can also be used to turn =O into OH with another H on other side.
Bromination (Br2)
Anti-addition
Br2 reacts with a molecule with a double bond adding two Brs the double bond flips out.
McPBA
Makes opoxi ring
Hydrohalogenation (Hx)
Markovinkov
HX
A halogen reacts with a dohble bond causing it to flip out and add a halogen (X) to the end
Anti-markiuvnikov (Hx/ROOR)
HX/ROOR (such as H2O2)
Same as hydrohalogenation but X added to other side
Dihydroxylation (KMnO4/0c/wu)(McPBA/H30)(OsO4)
== + KMnO4/0c/ wu—> OH—OH
Also works with McPBA/H3O
And OsO4
Oxidative cleavage (KMnO4/hot)
KMnO4/hot
A carboxilic acid is added where double bond used to be
Ozonolysis (O3/Me2S)
Breaking with ozone
O3/Me2S
Breaks double bond into two with ketone on ends
Halohydrogen formation (Br2/H2O)
Br2/H2O
Uses double bond to form OH and Br
Oxymercuration (Hg(OAc)2/H2O)(NaBH4)
Hg(OAc)2/H2O NaBH4
Get rid of double bond and adds OH to vinilic carbon
What happens when you react a molecule with BH3 and then H2O2/OH
Double bond flips out and has BH2 on one side and H on other. Then BH2 comes off and is replaced with OH
Acid catalized reaction (H3O) (H2SO4/H2O)
H3O (off vinylic) or H2SO4/H2O (off anylic) can be used to flip out doubke bond and make OH
H- and Wu
Turns =O into OH with another H on other side
H+/triangle
Turns OH back into alkene
HNO3/H2SO4
Adds a NO2
