Q
Subject Matter & Imagery
A
- It is a portrait but the gesture and rose are also key elements
- The dead rose being cut may symbols a dead love or removing love from her life
- Gesture maybe symbolic of her mood

Q
Mood & Atmosphere
A
- Serious, perhaps even angry expression
- The dead rose is slightly tragic and depressing
- No vibrant colours add lack of joy but also tranquility
