Alignment Flashcards
List two reasons for doing a rough alignment
I need to get the two machines close enough so you don’t run out of travel in the two dial indicators or they don’t crush the dials with lack of travel
List three things that could cause coupling run out
Worn bearings
Bent shaft
A coupling with an improperly drilled hole
Explain while Dial bar sag has to be added to the reading taking at 6 o’clock and subtracted from the readings taken at 12 o’clock
Because gravity pulls the two tiles opposite ways from where they were zeroed
When doing the alignment on a new pump installation what must be done first before checking for Pipe strain and taking any readings base is already leveled and grouted
You need to set the datum line
What is soft foot and why is it important to perform a soft foot check before starting an alignment
Soft foot is when one of the machines feet does not touch the ground thus if you don’t account for it it’s can throw your shim stack if that foot off
On across dial where should you zero your horizontal
Dial a at 3 o’clock and dial be at 9 o’clock
On across dial where should you zero no vertical
A is on top and B is on the bottom
