It is the highest power of the variable or highest sum of powers in a term.
Linear polynomial = 1 degree

Cubic polynomial = 3
Constant polynomial = 0

A
Any factor of an alegebric quantity is called the coefficient of the remaining quantity. Ex: 7 in 7xyz
