Algebra Test 6b Review Flashcards
Base 10 Logarithm
y=log x if and only if x=10^y
Logarithm of a Power of 10
log 10^x = x
Base b Logarithm
y=log^bx if and only if b^y=x
Logarithm of a Product
logb(xy)=logb(x)+logb(y)
Logarithm of a Quotient
logb (x/y) = logbx-logby
Logarithm of a Power
logb(x^n) = nlogb^x
Change-of-Base Property of Logarithms
logbx= loga^x/ loga^b
1)
If a variable is in the power of an exponent, switch the problem to a logarithm by using the
definition
Logarithm OR by taking the log of both sides.
2) If a variable is the argument of a log, change the problem to
exponential form.
Exponential form to Logarithmic form EX
If 2^3=8 than log2^8=3
3) If a variable is the power of an argument of a log, use the
Logarithm of a Power Property.
4) If a variable is the logarithm of a logarithm
that is not base 10, change to
exponential form using the definition or use the Change-of-Base Property.
5) If the variable is the base of a log, change to
exponential form using the definition.
