Algebra And Functions Flashcards
Factoring quadratics
You need to find what two numbers multiplies to the last number and what numbers will also add to the middle number and the numbers need to be the same
x^2-3x-4= (x-4) (x+1)
-4 and 1 both multiplies to 4 and adds up to 3
Difference of two squares
a^2 - b^2= (a+b) (a-b)
P^-4=
1/p1/p1/p*1/p
x^0=
1
x^a/b=
b to the square root of x^a
y^1/2=
Square root of y
When multiplying expressions withe the same base you
Add the exponents
When dividing expressions with the same base
Subtract the exponents
When a number raised to an exponent is raised by another exponent
Multiply the exponents
y= kx; x and y are
Directly proportional
y= k/x; x and y are
Inversely proportional
Increase by percent from a previous number is
x + %x
example
x + .20x which is equal to 1.20x
Percent increase from an original number is
difference/original = x/100
Example origin cost was 12 now it’s 15
3/12=x/100. 12x=300. x=25
