Algebra Flashcards
When multiplying terms with the same base, what do you do with the powers
Add them together
When dividing terms with the same base what do you do to the power
You subtract the powers
When you raise a term with a power to another power what do you do to the power
You multiply the powers
When raising a product of terms to a power to a power what do you do to the power
You raise each term to that power
When raising a fraction to a power what do you do to the power
You raise each term to that power
Any number raised to the power of zero is equal to what
1
What does a number raised to a negative power give
A fraction with 1 as the numerator
A number raised to negative one gives what
It’s reciprocal.
What do you have to do to add and subtracting algerbraic fractions
Make sure that they have the same denominator
What do you do when you multiply algerbraic fractions
You first cancel any common factors and then. Multiply the numerators and denominators separately
What do you when you divide algerbraic fractions
You multiply by the reciprocal
How do you expand an expression
You multiply each term inside the bracket by the term outside
How do you factorise an expression
You divide each term by the HCF and then write the answers
What do you do to expand binomial products
You multiply each term in he first bracket by each term in the second bracket
How do you factorise quadratic expressions
You find the numbers that have a sum of B and a product of C then you use these two numbers to make a binomial product
