Algebra Flashcards
What is the first thing to look for when finding an Nth term?
How you get from one number to the next.
This is called a difference.
Why should you find the difference when you are trying to write a nth term?
If the difference is constant ( the same value ) it is linking the terms in the sequence to a times table.
How do you square a value?
Multiply it by itself
What would be the fourth term in the sequence with the rule: 3n - 2 ?
You must substitute n for the value 4.
So multiply 3x4 then subtract 2.
Solution is 10
What is the rule for this sequence?
9, 11, 13, 15, 17 …..
The sequence is odd, and increasing 2 each time.
So compare with 2,4,6,8,10 which is 2n.
I need 9 so I add 7. I do this each time
Solution 2n + 7
How would you find the answer to
x(3x-4)?
Multiply x by 3x, then multiply x by -4.
Solution is 3x^2 - 4x
How do you solve 5x + 6 = 36
Take 6 from 36 to get 30, then divide 30 by 5 to get 6.
