Who was Philip II?
Philip dreamed of taking control of Greece and then moving against Persia to seize it’s vast wealth. Philip also hoped to avenge the Persian invasion of Greece in 480 B.C.
What was the kingdom of Macedonia?
Located just north of Greece, this rough terrain and a cold climate.

People who lived in mountain villages rather than city-states . They also thought as themselves as Greeks.

Son of Phillip, taught by Aristotle to lead the empire and expand it with his military knowledge and accomplishments.
Who was Darius III?
Persian king, raised a huge army of 50-75 thousand men to face Macedonians near Issus.
What was Alexandria?
Center of Hellenistic civilization.
What was Hellenistic culture?
Vibrant new culture.
