Before carrying out any manoeuvre you should:
*Use mirrors to check traffic behind
*Look around for a final check
*Signal if necessary
When overtaking, be careful that:
*You have a clear view of the road ahead- there should be no bends or dips ahead
*There’s enough time to complete the manoeuvre safely
To let other road users know you’re there:
*Switch lights on when it gets dark
*Consider using the horn if in a place where visibility is limited
When turning right onto a dual carriageway:
Check that the central reservation is large enough for your vehicle
When following a large vehicle:
Stay well back. If you can’t see the vehicle’s mirrors, the driver may not be able to see you
Always plan your journey so you:
*Know which route you need to take
*Have regular rest stops
To stay concentrated:
*Don’t drive continuously for more than 2 hours
*Keep fresh air circulating in the car
If you start to feel drowsy:
Leave at the next exit, find a safe and legal place to park and take a break
You may be distracted by:
*Passengers
*Loud music
*Objects hanging in the car
*Starting or changing music
*Looking at a map
*Talking into a microphone
If you get lost on a busy road:
Turn into a side road as soon as possible, stop and check a map
