What is alcoholic hepatitis?
A
- 3rd stage of alcoholic liver disease:
- fatty liver (steatosis)
- alcoholic hepatitis (inflammation and necrosis)
- alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

What causes alcoholic hepatitis?
A
- Chronic heavy alcohol ingestion
- 40-80g/day in men
- 20-40 in women
- For 10-12 years

What are Sx of ALD?
A
- presence of risk factors
- abdominal pain
- hepatomegaly
- haematemesis and melaena

What are risk factors for ALD?
A
- prolonged and heavy alcohol consumption
- hepatitis C
- female sex
- cigarette smoking
