  • High dietary carb intake
  • Recurrent episodes of vomiting in past month
  • Co-occurrence of other nutritionally related conditions: polyneuropathy, amblyopia, pellgra, anemia

Wernicke’s Enchephalopathy Treatment

A
  • Thiamine 500 mg IV TID for 2-3 days then 250 mg QD for 3-5 days (give over 30 min, dilute in 50-100 mL NS)
  • Thiamine 100 mg PO TID rest of stay
  • Multivitamin IV
  • Replace Mg
  • Replace fluid & electrolyte losses
  • Monitor electrolytes, BP & renal
