Alcohol Reactions Flashcards
Alcohol —> Carboxylic Acid. Name the reagents. Name the process.
H+/MnO4 - OR H+/Cr2)7 2-. This is an oxidation reaction as a double C=O bond is being added.
Alcohol —> Haloalkane. Name the reagents and type of reaction.
PCl3 / PCl5 / SOCl2. This is a substitution reaction.
Alcohol —> Alkene. Name the reagents and its properties. Name the process.
Heat / Concentration H2SO4. Sulfuric acid is a dehydrating agent which removes the OH group. This is an elimination reaction.
Haloalkane —> Alcohol. Name the reagent and type of reaction.
KOH (aq). This is a substitution reaction where the OH group in KOH replaces the halogen group in the haloalkane.
Alkene —> Alcohol. Name the reagents and process.
KOH (aq). This is a hydration reaction (H and OH groups are added).
