What are the findings of the COMBINE study?
That is, the patient groups who demonstrated the best (statistical) drinking outcomes after 16 weeks of outpatient treatment had received:
- Naltrexone with MM counselling alone (no speciality CBI) or
- Speciality therapy, CBI, with just the placebo pills and MM counselling.
- There was no advantage found in the COMBINE study for adding acamprosate either to MM or to speciality alcohol treatment (CBI)

For medication treatment of alcohol use disorder in patients with:
- acute hepatitis
- liver enzymes ≥3 to 5 times normal
- liver failure
