What is the dose of albuterol?

A

Preoperative breathing treatment

  • MDI: 1-4 puffs
  • Nebulizer: 2.5-5 mg

Intraoperative bronchospasm

  • MDI: 6-8 puffs (or more)
    place canister in 60 mL syringe and attach in place of gas sampling line

large doses needed intraoperatively due to loss of drug inside ETT

  • ~5-10 minutes (nebulized solution is faster)

peak effect is usually after 30 mintues
