Hydrant Valve?

A

A. The large diameter 4-way hydrant valve
(LDHV) permits the first-in engine to lay a large
diameter supply directly from hydrant to fire.

What does the main body consist of?

A

The valve consists of a main body, or
housing, that has two inlets and two
outlets. A diverter is located inside the
main body. The diverter directs the flow of
water 90° from the inlet to one of two
outlets.

threads.

loss

A
1,000 GPM flowing through 100’ of 4”
hose without the LDHV will create 114
pounds of friction loss
2. 1,000 GPM flowing through 100’ of 4”
hose with the LDHV in the line will create
120 pounds of friction loss
3. 1,900 GPM without the valve 213
pounds of friction loss
4. 1,900 GPM with the LDHV 230 pounds
of friction loss

How is the LDHV maintained?

A

The maintenance of the LDHV consists of
keeping the valve free of dirt and debris, and
handling the tool in a manner, which prevents abuse
of equipment.

What is the hydrostatic pressure

rating of the LDHV ?

A

The LDHV has been tested by the manufacture
to withstand a hydrostatic pressure of 900 psi.
D. Annually the LDHV will be pressure
tested by Supply and Maintenance
Division at pump test.
