What are normal and utility category airworthiness certificate?
Normal - structure handle 3.8 G without structural failure.
Utility - structure handle 4.4G, limited aerobatics, including spins if approved.
Does an airworthiness certificate expire?
No
Where must the airworthiness certificate be located?
Cabin or cockpit entrance so it is legible to passengers and crew.
What two conditions must be met for an aircraft to be airworthy?
- Must conform to type design… follow drawings and specs.
2. Must be in a safe condition regarding wear and deterioration.
Explain how to determine if an aircraft conforms to approved type design and is safe.
- Ensure all inspections, maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and alterations have been documented in maintenance logs.
- Conduct thorough preflight for wear and deterioration. (If inoperative equipment, use 91.213 for handling)
What are airworthiness directives?
FAA notification to the owner of unsafe conditions. They are regulatory and must be complied with.
What are two types of airworthiness directives (AD)?
Emergency - can’t fly until done
Less urgent - required within a specified period.

What are special airworthiness bulletins?
FAA issues information/alerts, they are not regulatory.
What is a type certificate data sheet?
Lists conditions and limitations under the airworthiness certificate such as engine make and model, fuel type, maximum weight etc.
What is a supplemental type certificate?
FAA’s approval of a major change in the type design… airframe, engine or component when not authorized in the type certificate data sheet.
What is an aircraft registration certificate?
Before it can be flown, it must be registered with the FAA registry issued to the owner as evidence of registration. It does expire 3 years after last day of month of issue. Temporary cert is valid no more the 90 days.
Where can you find information on the placards and marking information required for the airplane?
FAA Type certification data sheet or aircraft specifications. Also in the limitations section of the AFM or as directed by an AD
