What is a relocated runway threshold?
The closed portion of the runway cannot be used for takeoff and landing, but may be used for taxiing. Yellow arror heads are placed right before the relocated threshold bar.
What is a displaced threshold?
Runway threshold that is placed not at the beginning of the runway. The area before the threshold can be used for takeoff, but not landing.
What is the runway safety area?
The area around the runway that is maintained for emergency accessibility.
What is the runway safety area boundary sign?
Two solid yellow lines and two dashed yellow lines.
What is a runway holding position sign?
White characters outlined in black with a red background.
What are runway distance remaining signs?
Indicates the length of runway left, in thousands of feet.
What are enhanced taxiway centerline markings?
The enhanced taxiway centerline marking is used to warm of an upcoming runway.
What are taxiway direction/location/destination signs?
The common yellow/black ones.
What is an ILS critical area and what does the hold marking look like?
ILS critical area is area that must be kept clear of obsticals if the ILS signal is to not be interrupted.
How is a closed runway or taxiway indicated?
By a raised or flat yellow X. Sometimes it is lit up. Sometimes the runway is closed but no indication is present, so it is important to check the NOTAMs for this information.
What are the six types of airport signs?
Mandatory instruction signs (red backgound, white inscription. ex. enterance to runway, prohibited area, critical area, etc)
Location signs (black with yellow font and yellow border)
Direction signs (yellow with black font)
Destination signs (yellow with black font)
Information signs (yellow with black font)
Runway distance remaining signs (black with white font. distance remaining is in thousands of feet)
