Airplane General, Emergency Equipment, Doors, Windows, Air Systems, Anti-Ice, Rain Flashcards
Recall the function and location of the cockpit light override switch.
• Overrides normal controls and illuminates various cockpit lights at maximum brightness. Located on overhead panel.
Recall the location and explain the function of the 3 positions of the flight deck emergency light switch.
- The switch is located on the overhead panel.
- OFF – prevents emergency lights system operation if airplane electrical power fails or is turned off.
- ARMED – all emergency lights illuminate if airplane electrical power fails or is turned off.
- ON – all emergency lights illuminate.
Recall that the EMERGENCY LIGHTS can be activated from the flight attendant panel…
regardless of the flight deck switch position.
Identify the number and location of all normal entry / exit doors and emergency exits (include entry / exit doors, overwing emergency exits, and cockpit sliding windows).
- All 757/767 aircraft have 2 cockpit sliding windows which may be used as emergency exits.
- Most 757’s have 6 doors and 4 overwing emergency exit doors
- Most 767’s have 4 doors and 4 overwing emergency exit doors
- Some 757’s have 6 doors and 2 emergency exit doors aft of the wing (with no overwing emergency exits).
- Some 767’s have 6 doors and 2 overwing exit doors
Locate and identify the flight deck indications for entry / service doors.
• Overhead panel ENTRY DOORS light and EICAS advisory message(s).
ENTRY DOORS Light
• Illuminated (amber) – an entry door is not closed, and latched and locked.
Note: An EICAS advisory message will show which specific doors are not closed, and latched, and locked. The ONLY way to tell if multiple doors are open is via the EICAS advisory message(s).
Locate and describe the flight deck indications for access, emergency, cargo doors and E & E.
• Overhead panel exterior door annunciator lights and EICAS
Advisory message(s)…
Emergency (EMER) DOORS Light
• Illuminated (amber) – a forward or aft (left or right) emergency door, or wing slide door is not closed and latched and locked.
CARGO DOORS Light
• Illuminated (amber) – the forward or aft cargo compartment door (or the bulk cargo door (B767) is not closed, and latched and locked.
ACCESS DOORS Light
• Illuminated (amber) – the forward equipment bay or the electrical
equipment compartment door is not closed and latched and locked
Specify the recommended minimum pavement width for a 180 turn.
- 757-200 120 feet
- 757-300 141 feet
- 767-300 146 feet
Describe the relationship of the nose, wingtip and tail during a turn.
- The turn radius of the wingtip is largest, except for the 757-300 where the tail radius is largest.
- The turn radius of the tail is larger then the nose on all airplanes.
- The turn radius of the nose is less than both the wingtip AND the tail on all airplanes.
Recall the location of the bulk cargo compartment door.
• Only the 767 has a bulk cargo compartment door, and it is located on the left aft fuselage.
Explain the meaning of an illuminated Emergency Lights UNARMED light.
Emergency Lights UNARMED Light
Illuminated (amber) – the emergency lighting system has been manually activated or the emergency lights switch is OFF.
Explain the meaning of ANY illuminated VALVE light on the B757/767 flight deck.
• Disagreement
Recall the minimum crew oxygen pressure.
• 1000 psi
Describe the function of the Passenger Oxygen (PASS OXY) Switch.
• Push – the passenger cabin oxygen masks drop
Passenger Oxygen ON light
Illuminated (amber) – the passenger oxygen system is activated and the masks have dropped.
Describe the function of the COMPARTMENT TEMP CONTROLS and INDICATORS.
Compartment Temperature Controls -
• AUTO –
provides automatic compartment temperature control.
• OFF –
closes the compartment trim air valve
the compartment temperature INOP light illuminates.
767 flight deck control only:
• MAN –
• provides manual control of compartment trim air valve
• spring loaded to the 6 o’clock position in this sector.
Recall the meaning of an engine bleed OFF light.
Engine Bleed Air OFF Lights • Illuminated (amber) – engine bleed air valve is closed: - automatically due to a system fault - the switch is OFF - the engine is not running.
Recall the indications of a dual auto pressurization controller failure.
AUTO Inoperative (INOP) Light Illuminated (amber) – • AUTO 1 and AUTO 2 cabin altitude control functions are inoperative
Recall the meaning of the cargo heat OVHT light (767 Only).
Cargo Heat Overheat (OVHT) Lights illuminated (amber) –
• Cargo compartment temperature above standard control range
• Shutoff valve signaled closed.
Describe the function of the trim air system.
• The trim air system adds warm air to the pack output air.
• The pack controllers regulate the pack output air temperature to satisfy the temperature requirement of the compartment requiring the coolest air.
• If the trim air system is OFF or inoperative, the packs attempt to maintain all compartments at an average temperature.
TRIM AIR Switch
• ON – the trim air valve is commanded open.
• Off (ON not visible) – the trim air valve is commanded closed.
Trim Air OFF Light
• Illuminated (amber) – the TRIM AIR switch is off.
Describe the function of the gasper system.
Gasper System (As installed) • The gasper system draws air from the forward cabin overhead air conditioning ducts and discharges it from gasper outlets in the passenger service units located above each passenger seat. Gasper air is controlled by the GASPER fan switch.
Recall the pressurization panel landing altitude must be reset during a destination change.
