Airframe Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Frahm damper?
Reduce lateral vibration.
How does the Frahm damper work?
Reduces airframe sensitivity to main rotor 1/rev vibration by moving the airframe mode away from 1/rev.
Where is any necessary tail ballast installed?
Between the Frahm damper and the tail rotor gearbox support structure.
What is the Frahm damper attached to?
The tail rotor gearbox support structure.
Can the aircraft be flown without the Frahm damper fitted?
No.
What is the purpose of the slats on the horizontal stabiliser?
To improve pitch stability in the climb.
What is the purpose of the gurney flap on the upper vertical stabiliser?
Improves directional stability.
What governs the Weight On Gear (WOG) caption?
A combination of speed, rotor RPM, vertical speed and collective pitch.
Which system is associated with the antenna atop the vertical stabiliser?
Nav/VOR/ILS
What fluid level can be inspected from the inspection window on the right hand side of the aircraft?
The transmission oil level on the main gearbox.
What is the maximum weight of equipment that can be loaded into the baggage compartment?
250lbs.
What is the maximum floor loading of the baggage compartment?
50lbs/sq foot
The aircraft should be moored when the wind is expected to exceed what speed?
50kts.
What are the four sections of the airframe?
- Forward fuselage.
- Mid fuselage.
- Aft fuselage.
- Tailboom section.
