Aircraft Construction Flashcards
List the different categories of aviaiton products
- Normal, Utility, Acrobatic, and Commuter Category Airplanes
- Transport Category Airplanes
- Normal Category
- Transport Category Rotocraft
- Manned Free Balloons
- Aircraft Engines
- Propellers
Explain how a Type Certificate is issued by the FAA
When the aircraft product complies with the applicable airworthiness standards
Explain how an Airworthiness Certificate is issued by the FAA
- Aircraft is complete with airframe, engine, and propeller
- Aircraft meets the design and manufacturing standards
- In condition for safe flight
State the two types of airworthiness certificates
- Standard
- Special
List the four forces that act upon an aircraft
- Thrust
- Lift
- Weight
- Drag
Explain thrust
The forward force produced by the powerplant/propeller
Explain drag
The rearward, retarding force and is caused by disruption of airflow by the wing, fuselage and other protruding objects
Explain weight
The combined load of the aircraft itself, the crew, the fuel and the cargo or baggage
Explain lift
Produced by the dynamic effect of the air acting on the wing and acts perpendicular to the flight path through the wings center of lift
List the three demensions and the control to move the them.
- Logitudinal: Nose to Tail - Roll
- Lateral: Wing Tips - Pitch
- Vertical: Vertical through the CG: Yaw
Explain the CG
The specific point of the aircraft wheren it is balanced
List the Performace Instruments
- Altimeter
- Airspeed Indicator
- Vertical Speed Indicator
- Heading Indicator
- Turn-and-Slip Indicator
List the Control Instruments
- Attitude Indicator
- RPM Guage
List the Navigation Instruments
- Course Indicators
- Range Indicators
- Glideslope Indicators
- Bearing Pointers
- GPS
How many satellites must a GPS receiver must lock onto to calculate a two-demensional position (LAT-LONG)?
